NPTEL

width=This course covers the intricate dynamics of vehicles and their energy efficiency. It starts with the fundamental concept of energy in vehicles, explaining how it acts as fuel and determines the vehicle's range. For instance, the course discusses the design of motor controllers and batteries, the role of voltage, and the impact of current on heat dissipation. It also introduces the concept of a standard drive cycle, a tool used to compare the energy efficiency of different vehicles. The course further delves into the forces applied to a moving vehicle, including aerodynamic resistance, rolling resistance, gradient resistance, and the force due to acceleration. It also explores the power and energy requirements of different types of vehicles, such as two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and small trucks. Lastly, the course covers the calculation energy requirements at different speeds and RPMs for various types of vehicles.

This course has been developed by Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala from IIT Madras for NPTEL. It is now accessible through Ansys Innovation Space courtesy of the partnership between Ansys and NPTEL, under the CC BY-SA license. For more details, visit https://archive.nptel.ac.in/courses/108/106/108106182/.
