width=This course covers the comprehensive understanding of compressible flow through varying area passages, convergent nozzles, convergent-divergent nozzles, and steam flow through nozzles. It provides a deep dive into the principles of flow through these different types of nozzles, explaining the concepts of quasi one-dimensional flows, area-velocity relation, area-Mach number relation, and 'choking'. The course also explores the process of pulling and pushing the flow, sonic speed, under-expanded and over-expanded flow, and the impact of these conditions on the nozzle's performance. It further discusses the effects of varying ambient pressure on the flow, including the creation of a weak flow, sonic speed at the throat, and the triggering of a normal shock. The course concludes with a detailed analysis of steam flow through nozzles, explaining how to determine the exit pressure, exit velocity, and the mass flow rate.
