Component Mode Synthesis (CMS) Analysis using Ansys Mechanical Software
6+ HOURS
Component mode synthesis (CMS) is a form of substructure coupling analysis frequently used in structural dynamics.
CMS allows you to derive the behavior of the entire assembly from its constituent components. First, the dynamic behavior of each of the components is formulated. Then, by enforcing equilibrium and compatibility along component interfaces, the program forms the dynamic characteristics of the full system model.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Have a fundamental understanding of substructuring and how it can be used to reduce solution computation time.
- Be able to use the Component Mode Synthesis substructuring solution method within a Modal, Random Vibration,
Response Spectrum and/or MSUP Harmonic analysis. - Be able to used Condensed Parts to represent equivalent mass, stiffness, and damping of components within a large
assembly. - Learn how to properly connect Condensed Parts to a system-level model while maintaining their contributions to the
dynamic response of the system. - Understand how damping is accounted during a Component Mode Synthesis solution.
Prerequisites:
Users are encouraged to be familiar with following courses:
- Foundations in Linear Dynamics of Structures: Structural Dynamics
- Ansys Mechanical Getting Started: Basics
Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in the 2025R1 release.
