In this workshop, you will examine a turbulent liquid round jet released into an air crossflow, where the primary breakup mechanism is aerodynamic (shear breakup), facilitated by liquid turbulence in Ansys Fluent® fluid simulation software. This workshop illustrates the setup and simulation of a using the VOF-DPM transition tool. The transition tool can reduce the computational expense of a VOF breakup simulation due to its ability to transfer liquid VOF lumps to DPM droplets.
Learning Outcomes:
Following completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Use the VOF model to capture primary breakup of a jet in crossflow.
- Apply the VOF-DPM transition tool to identify liquid lumps and transfer them to DPM droplets.
- Implement dynamic gradient mesh adaption.
- Use expressions to define multiple adaption criteria.
- Apply Shielded Blended Eddy Simulation (SBES) turbulence model.
- Set up animation sequence.
