SKU: PL-EL-00016 Categories: , Tag:

This course explores antenna-related Ansys HFSShigh-frequency electromagnetic simulation software topics, based around single-element antennas, including open regions (absorbing/radiating PML, ABC/Radiation and FE-BI), near fields, far fields, dynamic link to circuit, and optimization with both Optimetrics and optiSLang. In addition to FEM (finite element method) volumetric meshed simulation open region boundaries, HFSS Antenna explores the integral equation (IE) surface mesh formulation and ray-based formulations including physical optics (PO) and SBR+ (shooting bouncing ray). The final sections cover hybrid regions with more than one formulation (IE, PO, and SBR+) simulated across distances, facilitated by FE-BI (finite element – boundary integral) regions.

Learning Outcomes:

Following completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Create antennas from the Antenna Design Toolkit or by drawing new geometry.
  • Generate both far field and near field plots for linear and circular polarizations.
  • Create antenna simulation results reports and plot field overlays on antenna geometry.
  • Connect antenna structures to RF circuit schematics.
  • Run Optimetrics in HFSS as well as set up optiSLang to work with HFSS.
  • Understand and choose various EM formulations available for antenna design.
  • Set up both infinite array and finite array simulations.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of the Getting Started with Ansys HFSS Software course or equivalent familiarity with HFSS 3D modeler, workflow, solver setup, and post-processing (plotting results graphs).
  • Completion of the Ansys HFSS 3D Components, Boundary Conditions, Ports and Mesh course is highly recommended.
  • Knowledge of microwave electronics and antenna engineering principles, including S-parameters, transmission lines, matching networks and antenna far-field radiation patterns.

Please note: These training materials were developed and tested in 2021 R1 release. However, due to kernel change, simulation files compatible from 2025R1 version are also provided.
