This course covers the comprehensive understanding of combustion thermodynamics and its applications. It starts with the application of thermodynamics to combustion, particularly in combustors, and the impact of chemical reactions on combustion. For instance, it explains how the steady flow energy equation and entropy balance of a control volume can be applied to combustion. The course further delves into the concept of enthalpy in combustion systems, the principles of combustion in a steady state combustor, and the detailed analysis of combustion systems. It also covers the calculation of the amount of oxidizer required to burn 1 kg of fuel, assuming complete combustion, and the concept of atmospheric pressure vaporization. The course concludes with a discussion on the importance of stoichiometric studies in understanding fuel composition.
