Why have I “hot spots” results for B or H field with solid 236 elements, and not with solid117 ?

This happens with the solid236 element when it deviates significantly from a straight brick shape and its cross-section is in the form of a rhombus. The B-field singularities (or “hot spots”) happen because SOLID236 uses true brick shape functions to approximate the edge-flux DoFs. The tetrahedron-shaped SOLID236 or SOLID237 elements do not have this issue. In comparison, we don’t see this problem with SOLID117 because, even if it’s a brick externally, internally it is subdivided into tetrahedras.
