We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Why am I getting unphysical temperatures at walls when Viscous Work Term is enabled?

In some cases, enabling the Viscous Work Term for domains solving the Total Energy equation can result in unphysical temperatures at or near wall boundaries. This is due to a mismatch in the formulation of the viscous work and turbulent diffusion terms in the energy equation, both of which require local viscosity values. In the boundary layer, these two terms dominate, and decoupling can occur if the formulations are not consistent, resulting in unphysical temperatures. In most cases, the use of the expert parameter diffusion coef averaging type = 2 removes the problem by making the formulations for both terms consistent (element averaged).
