Solution
ParticipantThe FLUENT DPM (Discrete Phase Model) allows the user to compute the flow for a set number of discrete particle trajectories dispersed in a continuous phase. The momentum of a particle’s trajectory is implicitly determined from the user-inputted value for the total Mass Flow Rate for the specified DPM, and is theoretically defined as the ‘number of particles injected per unit time’ in a single trajectory. The volume fraction of the discrete phase dispersed in the larger, continuous phase can be considered as the ‘density of particles in a single cell’. This volume fraction can be implicitly calculated from the above ‘number of particles injected per unit time’. Please note that the DPM model in ANSYS Fluent assumes that the second phase is sufficiently dilute that particle-particle interactions and the effects of the particle volume fraction on the larger phase are negligible; therefore, the volume fraction of the discrete phase has no impact in the DPM.
