FAQ: Discovery AIM – Resolving message “Adjacent bodies in this region do not share faces”
Problem: While working with a Fluid-Solid Heat Transfer (Conjugate Heat Transfer / CHT) analysis, you might come across below message:
Adjacent bodies in this region do not share faces. Generate region interfaces to allow flow or heat conduction between them.
Cause and Recommended Solution:
When region interfaces are generated, interfaces are created between different physics regions as well as within each physics region. When any physics region contains bodies which are not connected with each other, there is no interface created for such bodies and hence the above message appears.
To better understand this problem, consider below example. In this model, the 4 vertical plates are neither touching with each other nor with the bottom plate.
Once the region interfaces are generated, the above message appears for this model. To identify the bodies which are not sharing faces, right click on the message and select “Select Location” option. This will highlight the bodies (4 vertical plates in this case). Since the 4 bodies are not in contact with any body, there won’t be any interfaces created for these bodies within its physics region. This is expected and thus, in such cases the above message can be safely ignored. So, it is important to view the bodies associated with this message and ensure that the bodies are not having any contact with each other before ignoring this message.
One way to avoid displaying this message is by performing Share Topology. If you have performed shared topology on the model, this message does not appear upon creation of region interfaces. Due to Share Topology, region interfaces are only created between different physics regions and not within each physics region.
