EM FAQ: Halbach Cylinder in Maxwell

A Halbach Cylinder is a magnetic arrangement intentionally magnetized so that the field outside (inside) the cylinder is intensified and the field inside (outside) is minimized. If the cylinder (or annular ring) consists of magnet segments, the procedure to model this discrete Halbach configuration in Maxwell would be the same as described in the document EM FAQ: Halbach Array in Maxwell. The only difference being that the segments are arranged in a circle (Fig. 1), instead of a line. In order to model the idealized continuous Halbach magnetization pattern in Maxwell, the procedure described in the following can be used. Keywords: Maxwell, Permanent Magnets, Halbach Cylinder, Magnetization
