Can one use symmetry on beam elements?

No, one cannot use the symmetry with beam elements. For the symmetry models the symmetry planes pass through the beams, doing so will require using half cross section at the symmetry plane as well as constraining the beam normal to the symmetry plane. The half symmetry plane has half cross sections defined but it is not assigned to the beams.
