Postprocessing is an important part of a simulation project. It is the moment you can finally see how your knowledge and the tools that you had in your hand reproduced the real world on a screen.

Ansys Rocky is a particle simulation software that brings great possibilities for the simulation world, enabling engineers to model and analyze the behavior of particulate matters through Discrete Element Method (DEM).

Ansys EnSight is a simulation data visualization software with powerful postprocessing, that can handle large simulation datasets from all physics and engineering disciplines, consolidating data from multiple engineering simulations to help users to analyze, visualize and communicate the most complex systems and processes.

When combined, this two software bring to your simulations deeper insights into complex systems and maximize the visualization capabilities.

What are the benefits of Ansys Rocky + Ansys EnSight Coupling?

Advanced 3D Visualization: Ansys EnSight provides advanced 3D visualization tools that allow users to better understand complex particle behavior by creating detailed, high-resolution visual representations of the simulation data.

Comprehensive Data Analysis: Ansys EnSight allows for the integration of multiple data sets, offering a more holistic view of the simulation results. This means users can combine particle dynamics data with other simulation results (like fluid flow or thermal analysis) to gain deeper insights.

Detailed Postprocessing: Detailed analysis of particle behavior over time, providing better understanding and more accurate predictions.

Customizable Presentations: Users can create customized presentations that highlight specific aspects of the simulation.

Handling Large Data Sets: Ansys EnSight is optimized for handling large, complex data sets that can result from particle simulations in Ansys Rocky. This ensures that even extensive simulations can be processed and visualized without performance bottlenecks.

Parallel Processing: Both Ansys Rocky and Ansys EnSight support parallel processing, allowing for faster analysis and visualization, especially when dealing with large-scale simulations.

How to couple Ansys Rocky with Ansys EnSight?

After running any case using Ansys Rocky, with either DEM particles or SPH elements, you can open the .rocky file through Ansys EnSight, and postprocess using it all the environment, lights, and materials processing capabilities.

Take the example below, where the Transfer Chute case of our Ansys Rocky Tutorial 01 was normally solved in Rocky:

After fishing the simulation, the case was closed, and Ansys EnSight was opened.

The file that must be selected through the Ansys EnSight it is the .rocky file, as shown below:

After that, the Transfer Chute case is normally opened by the Ansys EnSight, with all the results solved by Ansys Rocky:

See in the section below the results of this and other Ansys Rocky Simulations postprocessed with Ansys EnSight.
