ANSYS Discovery: Preventing Unintended Changes to User Settings When Launching Multiple Discovery Products

An issue has been identified that causes unexpected changes to the user settings when multiple SpaceClaim variants are launched simultaneously.

A solution to this problem is already being tested for implementation.

Problem: Changing background colors, loss of tool guides, and/or user preferences overwritten when multiple SpaceClaim variants are launched simultaneously.

Cause: The Discovery products are all installed in the same directory as ANSYS SCDM.  Every variant of Discovery and SCDM is launched using the same executable.  The only exception to this is the legacy version of ANSYS SpaceClaim.

Additionally, the user settings for all SpaceClaim variants (ANSYS SpaceClaim, Discovery SpaceClaim, and SCDM) are all stored in a common shared directory.

      Recommended Solution:

The following steps are the recommended solution to completely resolve this problem.

      1. Install the standard ANSYS products following the normal procedure
      2. Install Discovery products in a non-default directory (i.e. C:Program FilesANSYS Inc_2)
      3. A second, optional, Discovery installation can be placed in another non-default directory if Discovery Live and Discovery SpaceClaim need to be run simultaneously.  In this case, the user will need to launch the programs with shortcuts pointing to their respective installation folders.

      Quick Fixes:

Each of these techniques can be used as a temporary solution:

      1. Launch only 1 program at a time
      2. Prior to exiting, make a change to any setting in the program options menu
      3. Reset the user settings for 1 of the programs
      4. Delete the SpaceClaim folder located in
        C:UsersAppDataLocalSpaceClaim
