How can I play an AVI from ANSYS Mechanical in Windows Media Player?

If you are in Windows 10 and you can’t play AVI’s in Windows Media player, there are two options: 1. Download and use another player such as VLC media player 2. Set an environment variable within ANSYS Mechanical to output an uncompressed AVI file For option 2, the explanation is as follows: The AVI file exported from ANSYS Mechanical uses MSVC(CRAM) codec for video encoding. Per the list of supported codecs for the “Movie and TV” player in Windows 10 this method of compression is not supported for AVI files (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh986969.aspx). This issue will be resolved as more export formats are added but as of now is a limitation. A workaround is to save an uncompressed AVI file. This can be done by setting a system variable “AVICompression” to “0”. These uncompressed AVI will work on this player. See attachment for instructions on how to set this variable.
