How does one do a coupled HF emag – thermal – structural analysis using MAPDL? The HF emag analysis is modal… the surface losses from the calculated eigen vector are to be scaled by a known scale factor, then applied to a thermal model. Temperatures from the thermal model are then used in a structural model to calculate thermally induced stresses. The coupling between each discipline need only be “one-way” – thermal “feedback” from the thermal model into the HF emag model will not be necessary.

Although HF emag was undocumented at v15 it still exists in MAPDL. You will need to have access to the Help at version 14.5 or earlier to view documentation regarding this technology. The example MAPDL input file attached to this solution uses the PHYSICS method and runs at v16.2.. Three physics environments are created: 1) HF emag modal analysis 2) Steady state thermal analysis 3) Static structural analysis The LDREAD command is used to read the time averaged surface heat flux from the HF emag analysis into the thermal model and the calculated temperatures from the thermal analysis into the structural model. If you do a google search on: ansys cavity accelerator you will find many papers on this.
