SubscriberI still have a long-running issue with ZEMAX crashing when saving a graphics file. This is true in formats other than .BMP and .JPEG which do save correctly and with 2025/R1. The last message I had (from Angel Morales) said: "I saw I had left this one in the On-hold status. I wanted to let you know that the issue has been investigated by our Dev Team, and a fix is being issued in a future release. It looks like the target release will be Ansys Zemax OpticStudio 2025 R1." I run under W11 and use a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card with the studio drivers. It is incredibly frustrating that something that worked until versions of ZEMAX were released post ANSYS acquistion is still an issue. Any ideas? Any likely release version that will fix this?

Forum ModeratorHi p.hobson,
Thank you for reaching out to us and sorry to hear that the issue is still present for you even with 2025R1 update. What do you mean by graphics file? Is it the 3D layout? I did some quick tests on saving 3D layouts and shaded models on non-sequential mode for both .BMP and .JPEG but I am not experiencing any crash from my side. Hence, may I ask you to provide me with more information here? What mode are you on (sequential or non-sequential)? Which specific analysis window are you trying to save? Would it be possible to attach a screenshot of your desing here so I can try and replicate it from my side and see if there a design specific issue or even better, can you try and use on of our samples files and see if you get the crash? Then I will to use the same file from my side.
Kind Regards,
Niki Â

SubscriberThank you for a quick response. The issue is with the 3D layout (NSC Shaded model) which always seems to crash ZEMAX if I try to get it to output a graphics file from my non-sequential simulation. I can soemtimes get ZEMAX to crash if I use the following supplied file "Light pipe.ZMX which is in the NonSequential\Fibers directory, select the NSC Shaded model and opt to write that out as .bmp file. Sometimes it doesn't crash but I get a corrupted .BMP For example the second time I wrote out the graphic as a .BMP it worked. It appears however that with my NSC Shaded it will always crash. It isn't a very complex diagram.

Forum ModeratorThank you p.hobson for coming back to me and giving me some additional information. I did try and test the same file you are reporting but still no crash from my side. May I ask you if you are eligible for support? I think a good way forward might be to open a case with us! This way we can exchange exchange a step by step prcedure on the exact same file so we can see if this is repeatable.
Kind Regards,
Niki

SubscriberIf I understand correctly, as an acadmic user I am no longer able to open a case. However even more relevantly, this has already been persued as a case! I quote again from the final email to me:
"I hope you are doing well! I wanted to reach out as I have been reviewing outstanding tickets, and I saw I had left this one in the On-hold status. I wanted to let you know that the issue has been investigated by our Dev Team, and a fix is being issued in a future release. It looks like the target release will be Ansys Zemax OpticStudio 2025 R1."
The case number was 67738 and it was closed in Septmber 2024.
