SubscriberSince I am doing co-simulation between TCAD and Lumerical mode, I want to create mat file from TCAD result to import to MODE instead of from CHARGE results. Therfore, I want to know what is the meaning of ID and area in np density as title or there is a better way to import result from TCAD to Lumerical, THKS. Â

Ansys EmployeeHi Hung-yi,
ID refers to the partitioned domain number to which each triangular element (or mesh cell) belongs and area is the surface area of each finite element mesh cell. Would you be able to tell me which exact result are you going to export from TCAD to Lumerical?

SubscriberThanks for your response. I am simulating the e/h density profile of the PIN Mach-Zehnder at TCAD. Therefore, I have a structure with np density profile (tdr file) from TCAD. I know how to reconstruct the strucutre in Lumerical by using dataset builder (with doping profile). But somehow I dont know how to create charge.mat to import into np density (I see PIN Mach-Zehnder example as reference.) or is there any method how to get ID and are data from structure so that I can create mat file at script by myself? THKS.

Ansys EmployeeHi Hung-Yi,
Thanks for sharing more details! I had a brief discussion with my team. We don't actually have any scripts (other methdos) that would convert data from non-Ansys solvers. I think you will have to reformat the results from TCAD to make sure that it matches the charge.mat file format:
This will largely depend upon what kind of data is TCAD returning you. What I can do is test on our side to see if the ID has an impact on the MODE results or not. If not, we could probably create that variable with random intengers. But on the other hand, it could be related to the material properties which are important for the index perturbation. I can test that and come back to you. In the mean time, I would be curious to know what is the format of the ouptut in TCAD.
