Hello!ÂI'm conducting static analysis using contact tool.ÂI can set face to face contact option of body to body contact option.ÂI think there's no difference between two option but, probably, there are implicit difference what I don't know.ÂCan you make me know about difference of two option?ÂI attached picture explaining two option.Âthank you!Â

Ansys EmployeeHi JooJaehoon,
In Ansys Mechanical, face-to-face and body-to-body scoping of contacts refer to different methods of defining how contacts are handled in a simulation. For face-to-face contact, only the scoped faces are participating in the contact calculation. On the other hand, for body-to-body contact, all the external faces of the bodies in the model during simulation time will be automatically taken into account in the contact calculation. The main difference is that for body-to-body scoping you may experience that the model is computationally more expensive. My suggestion is using face to face scoping as much as possible if you know how the interactions would occur.

SubscriberHi Armin, Thank you for applying.
then, you mean, there are no difference of analysis accuracy but only calculation time?

Ansys EmployeeNo problem JooJaehoon!
It's important to choose the scoping method that best represents the physical contact conditions of the problem you are analyzing. If, for example, only two surfaces are interacting in an analysis, I believe the results for surface-to-surface (selecting the two interacting surfaces) and body-to-body scoping should be comparable.Â
