Hello!
I am simulating a drone hitting a pitch link of a helicopter with a velocity of 30 m/s in the middle of the link.
Im having a few problems with verifying my results with handwritten calculation. I am considering the pitch link (a solid rod) a beam so that I may use beam theory. The link is fixed in both ends which would make the equation for maximum deformation in the middle:
(F*L^3)/(192*E*I)
The drone is made out of Expanded polypropylene foam which has spring properties and should reduce the impact force F acting upon the link.
Right now I am using the formula for impact force F = (m*deltaV) / impact timeÂ
but i also wanna know how i should subtract the spring force upon the drone.
I am using 0,001 s as impact time and deltaV= 30 m/s.

Hi,
This formula is for static load acting at the center for both ends fixed. You should expect a higher deformation (and the formula should be a different one) as the object is moving with a velocity.
