We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Vacuum Insulated Pipe

When trying to model a vacuum chamber, what is the best possible approach in Discovery?

I was wondering what happens when you model a chamber with no material assign and set the default convection to 0 W/m2C. Is then no heat transfer in that way?

In the next images you may see an internal fluid channel, next to the aforementioned chamber and then the external surface with certain higher temperature:

I hope it was clear and you can answer me.

      Hi,

      1. Sketch a half-part of the vacuum chamber and revolve the sketch around the longitudinal axis pull option, for straight chamber.

      • For curved chamber, u can use the sweep option. First, draw the cross-section of the chamber and then draw the path. Create the chamber body by sweeping the cross-section along the defined path.

      • For fluid body creation, you can use the "Volume Extract" option (Prepare tab > Generate > Volume Extract). For more details Refer to youtube video titled "Volume Extract in Ansys Discovery"

      2. Ansys Discovery does not simulate Heat transfer due to convection when a chamber is modeled without a material assigned and the default convection is set to 0 W/m²C. However, it's important to note that heat transfer can occur through other modes such as conduction and radiation, as you mentioned the inside and outside temperatures of the vacuum chamber. If no material is assigned, the software might assume default material properties, which could affect the simulation results.

      Thanks
