How do I solve this?

Ansys version v252

Downloaded LSDyna 16.1.1 smp_d     separately

Used INSTALL attached to installer to install Ansys2025R2

Hi Roberto

Just to make sure - are you using Workbench (25R2 runs 14.1 I think by default so how do you run 16.1 - also whcih Uni are these licences from?)
For the error - try please to set the enviromental variable called LSTC_LICENSE -> to Ansys.

Since using ANSYS SLM we need to use these two only:

export LSTC_LICENSE=ansys

export ANSYSLMD_LICENSE_FILE=1055@ansyslm.campus.bath.ac.uk

Out of interest is it battery model. you are performing with LS-Dyna or?

We hope other forum members say from Academia can provide their feedback (non Ansys mem.). 

In the meantime can you provide some info on the type of licence, if you are using LS-Dyna via workbench or standalone that would help non Ansys forum members especially from academia/Unis to provide some feedback to you.

So, you can run the default solver (14.1) without any issues? I recall a case where a similar thing happened, and it was resolved by upgrading the license manager to 2026R1 version!

Yes 14.1 is fine with Ansys2024R2 and Ansys2025R2 however, in using LSDyna 16.1.1 it complaints that the version is not include in the license

Please try upgrading your license manager to 2026R1, or your whole Ansys package to 2026R1. 2026R1 has R16.1 solver by default!

Thanks, we may be able to install the version 2026R1 of Ansys so that would solve the issue :-)

I have a question though: The issue is not really the presence of LSDyna 16.1.1 as it can be downloaded separately but the licence. How would would Ansys2026R1 allow LSdyna16.1.1 with the "old" license file?

Where is indicated which versions of the features are allowed.

As stated where is it written which features is allowed in a "particular" license file?

Why is everything so hidden and misterious with Ansys?

Hello Roberto,

Thanks for the follow up. Yes, if you install 2026R1, and upgrade to 2026R1 license manager as well, you can access all 2026R1 products that are allowed for your particular license type.

So, we have 2 types of LS-DYNA licenes. The LSTC one and Ansys one. I only handle LSTC type and I can show you where it's written if you're using LSTC LS-DYNA licenes. Since, you're not using LSTC licences, I'm really not sure what happens on the backend of Ansys LS-DYNA Flexnet licenses. Me, Erik, and other employees who contribute here are only product guys, we are not familiar with Ansys license related queries.

I suggest to raise a thread in this thread: Ansys Products

These guys are professionals when it comes to Ansys licensing stuff.

PS: We only hide, what needs to be hidden.

The LSTC license is used if say you use a separate version of Lsdyna (for instance downloaded from on line etc) ?

In another cluster we are using a separate downloaded LSdyna using an LSTC file how would that work?

Could you throw some more crumbs that I can chew?

If you use an LSTC license, it will have something like below:

You see the REVISION 6, REVISION 7 part, they restrict which solvers can be used. As an example, if you have a license file with REVISION 15, you can't use any solvers with IDs greater than 15, like R16 or R17. You would ideally get this error:

I hope this clarifies things on LSTC license. Now, if you're using LSTC licenses inside Workbench, this error might not be exposed clearly. That's why you receive a more generic error.

The picture you showed refers to what you would read in the proper license file on the server?

We only use the LSTC_FILE that tells lsdyna to use the standard ansys license server so, I guess it is an ansys licensing issue.

I have submitted another request to a different thread in ansys product.

Just in case, how would it work to request an separate LSTC LSdyna license?

For new separate license, you should contact your account manager.

Yes, the image I shared is an example LSTC_LS-DYNA license key file. Yes, this is the file that is read by LSTC license manager. If you have Ansys licenses, then it can only be read by Ansys license manager.
