Two-way Steady State Thermal – Fluent System Coupling issue

      Hi everyone,

I am analyzing a flow of water through an externally heated pipe with a porous internal structure. I have created a conformal mesh of solid and fluid domains and successfully imported it into Ansys. Getting the two-way system coupling to work between Steady-State Thermal and Fluent took some time, but I managed to get it working and I got good convergence of residuals, as well as multiple surface monitors. My question regards interpreting the results since I do not believe they are correct.

      This is the Workbench setup:

Hi Stefan,nIt would be good to first know more about the goal of your simulation. Do you need to determine the temperature in the solid and/or the stress in the solid? Do you need to account for any deformation of the solid? If so, is the deformation large enough to affect the flow?nIf you only need to determine the temperature in the solid, you can simulate both the fluid and solid in Fluent only. Is there a reason why the simulation isn't being done entirely in Fluent? If you also need to account for the stresses in the solid due to thermal and pressure effects, you can connect a Static Structural component to Fluent and transfer the pressure forces and volumetric solid temperature.nSystem coupling is really only needed for a scenario where a 2-way FSI simulation is needed.nSteve

Hi Steve, nnthank you for your comment. For now, I just needed to analyze the heat transfer in both solid and fluid domains. I did not realize this is possible in Fluent alone, I tried this out and needless to say that the results were much better. I have a couple of other issues, but I will open a new topic for that. Thanks a lot!nnBest regardsnnStefan n
