SubscriberFor the life of the Spaceclaim product, if you save over a file that is refernced in an assembly with another file, say created on someone elses computer, using the same name, you get an error when loading the assembly, saying that the "file is incorrect. It may have the correct name, but it is not the correct document."
At the most the software should maybe give you an information error saying there has been a change, but should then allow the file to be loaded. Spacecalim is a direct modeller, it shouldn't care if the document is not the correct one.
Please get rid of this restriction, it is highly frustrating, as every time the model doesn't load the referenced file you have to manullay update the assembly to re-reference the exact same file name again, and that file could be refernced in 100s of assemblies. Spacecalim is the only CAD program I know of that that seems to care where/when the file was created.
A work around is to use the use template for new design and have everyone use the same template. This fools Spaceclaim into thinking every file is the correct one, but the issue we have is we have thousands of files that were created before we starting using the template feature.
Please also don't reply suggesting to use Discovery. Discovery is still severally hamstrung for the real CAD work we do so its not an option for us in its current form.
Thanks

SubscriberHey Marc,
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. What you are saying does make sense, and it would be good to improve on this. Though I must say that it is highly unlikely for this to be improved in SpaceClaim as it is a legacy product now, and going ahead Discovery will be the CAD application of suggestion. While I do agree, currently it is not upto the level of SpaceClaim, so any suggestions for SpaceClaim, unless it is affecting a lot of customers, will first be improved within Discovery. But just to be on safer side, considering this would be affecting other users as well, I will convey it over to the Product team to if it can also be done in SC, as it is an established application for you, but I will also suggest this to be worked in Discovery for future.
Again thanks a lot for the suggestion and sorry for the inconvinience.Â
Thanks and regards,

SubscriberYes it makes sense, and I have raised it before when Spaceclaim when in active maintenace but nothing was done then, and when you say it doesn't affect many customers, I would say it affects every single one as its an issue with the file saving feature which every user has to use to save work.Â
Also when you say an issue that affects a lot of Spaccelaim users will be looked at, the major issue of file size is being completely ignored, which is when you internalise and extenalise lots of componets Spaceclaim keeps the history somehow, to the point you can have a file size that is hundreds of megabytes big with absolutely no gemoetry in it. We trialed the Discovery product when the sheetmetal feature ws released in it, but it is no better in that regard so it has the same issue so is still not really an option for us.
