SubscriberI am trying to figure out how to simulate free standing permanent magnets. For example can maxwell visually simulate what happens if you put 2 magnets fairly close together? Obviously in the real world they attract each other and become one. Can this be visually simulated in maxwell?

Ansys EmployeeHi @Nelge You can not visualize the magnets moving together themselves by just simulating two magnets apart. Instead, the following can be done.
You can do a parametric setup with varying distances and maxwell will calculate the fields and forces between the two magnets at all these distances.
after the parametric simulation, you can animate the setup with all the distances given in your parametric and visualize the field distributions changing as the magnets move closer or away from each other.
You can also plot the forces at all these distances.
Refer Maxwell help on field amination for additional information on how to create the animation.

I also tried playing around with one of the rotational examples, I made the stator and Rotor of magnetic material (flux directed towards centre of cylinder), created a motion band for the rotor, and added 0.1 kgm^2 moment of inertia, and simulated what would happened. The video attached shows the animation.
I suppose what I am trying to understand is what are the limits of this software? Because this solution I've made seems to follow my original '2 magnets' situation but with a slightly different setup.
Does this animation show that you can simulate 2 magnets attracting each other?, or have I made wrong assumptions somewhere?
