Reducing Results File Size in Acoustic Simulations

I am performing acoustic analyses on a large enclosure. The simulation is harmonic for 50 steps between 1050 - 1100 Hz. My goal is to obtain the sound pressure levels in the acoustic domains, at specific nodes, as well as in the far field (using an acoustic equivalent surface and far field microphone). The model ranges up to ~950000 nodes which yields a result file ranging from 28 - 35 GB. After loading in these results I find it is almost impossible to reopen mechanical. I believe the results file may be so large it bolts down the computer. It takes at least 4 hours of waiting for it to open.

Is there a way to reduce the size of this file? Specifically so that it does not hang up mechanical when I try to open it. I am not sure how to do this, or what to save or not save to obtain the results I desire.

      Chris,

Yes, at first glance it looks like the model size is taxing your PC hardware, especially since you indicate Windows 7 (i.e. This might be an older machine?) Can you provide more details on the machine you are using, what processor, how much RAM and how much free hard drive disk space you have?

      Hello,

The machine is actually quite new. Here are the specifications:

      - Research workstation by Dell with 32 GB of RAM.

      - The computer has two hard disk drives. Local Disk C has 14 of 237 GB left. Data drive D has 60 of 931 GB left. My model is located on the D Drive.

      - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHZ 3.60 GHz

Let me know if you need any other specifications!

      That's a pretty good machine.  I'm jealous!

I think this is back to the sheer size of the model, can you take a look at my post here to see if you can better optimize the model?

Hopefully this should help to reduce those large result files down.
