Questions regarding 3D irradiance sensor and Ambient sources

      Hello there!

I had a couple of questions regarding a few features of Speos. One of them being the Virtual 3D photometric lab. When using the 3D irradiance sensor and producing a simulation, the results do not provide the average irradiance from the overall shape. Instead it gives a minimum and maximum value. I was wondering how I can get that average value.

In addition, there are a lot of different ways to obtain a source that simulate the sky. I was wondering which of the ambient sources most accurately simulate the sky. In addition, is there a way to isolate just the sun using any of the ambient sources? Finally, when using ambient sources that request for location and time of day, is there a way to know where the sun is located or the direction of the sun.

Thank you in advance for helping!

      Hello,

      1. I was wondering how I can get that average value

You can use the measurement feature and create an area projected on the shape you will be able to get the average on this area.

      2. which of the ambient sources most accurately simulate the sky

The more complete sources are CIE Standard General Sky and Natural Light

      3. is there a way to isolate just the sun using any of the ambient sources

Yes, you can use a "natural light" source and put the "with sky" option to false

      4. is there a way to know where the sun is located or the direction of the sun.

The sun position is represented in the 3D view (the yellow circles below)

      Best regards

      Thomas

Awesome, thank you for answering the question. Just a quick follow up/clarification, I was wondering if the yellow circles indicating the sun position just provides the overall direction with respect to the compass.

      Thanks!

      Hello,

The yellow circle give the direction of the sun, refering to the selected axis (nort and zenith) + selected date, time and location.
