Dear all,Â
I am simulating a Coplanar Waveguide where I sweep the permittivity of a material (using Q3D, simulation freq around 5Ghz). I am interested in the field profiles and want to calculate certain quantities from the field profile like energy participation in a certain material or field filling factor in this material (i.e. need to evaluate the integral of the fields in different materials). So far, using a fixed permittivity, I did this manually using the field calculator.Â
However, there must be a way to apply the field calculator to all my parameteric sweep solutions? or is there like a scripting window in q3d where I can load all the fields? I know there is a python interface but in my eyes is quite an overhead to make myself familiar with it.Â
Thanks for your help!Â

Hi,
Thank you for reaching out to the Ansys learning forum. Your patience is much appreciated.
Please go through the following response which is inline with your questions
- Yes, It is possible to apply parametric sweep solutions inside fields calculator. For this, you should have enabled "save fields and mesh" option in the parametric analysis. For more details about this feature, please go through "setting options" section of the Q3D help document.
- Yes, there is a scripting window for all design types in AEDT. Please select the automation tab and you will see the available options.
In the post, it is mentioned that you have calculated for one variation. Please enable "record script" and do the calculations for automating the process. For more details, please go through the scripting guide.
Best regards,

Hey Praneeth,Â
Thanks for your fast reply! This already helped me a lot! I had the eoption save fields and mesh enabled! However in the fields calculator option I only see that I can chose one sweep solution. Am I right that it is not possible to use the fields calculator to access all sweeps at once?ÂI tried the recording and I get now the right commands to calculate my parmameters however how can I read out the evaluated value to the script as a parameter? so save the the CalcEval command in a variable? I can see it is read out in the field calculator window but the CalcEval returns NONE according to the programming manual...

Best,
Anja
