I am encountering an issue with Polyflow in ANSYS Workbench while trying to update the solution. The error message states:
"Update failed for the Solution component in Fluid Flow (Polyflow). Value was either too large or too small for an Int32."
The project file was originally created by a previous researcher in my lab, and it successfully ran on their system.
I am using the same settings and attempting to re-run the project on my computer with ANSYS Workbench, but the solution update fails with the above error message.
My system uses ANSYS Student 2024R1, and I am running Workbench with administrator privileges.
Here is what I’ve tried so far:Deleted all files in the ...\dp0\PFL directory, including .polyflow, .cdata, .lst, and .pfo.
Reset the Solution component within Workbench.
Tried running the solution update again, but it still failed with the same error.
Restarted Workbench in administrator mode and reloaded the project. The issue persisted.Changed the Mesh Decomposition from Automatic to 256.
Enabled GPU acceleration (nvidia) and increased the processor count from 1 to 2.
Modified .p3rc configuration, setting MCONTR to 10 from the default 20.
Re-ran the solution update, but the error remains unchanged.Switched the GPU setting to none to test if the error was related to GPU acceleration. The issue persisted.
Simplified the mesh settings and reduced mesh complexity, but no change in behavior.Loaded the original, successful project file directly without any modifications.
Reset the Solution and attempted an update. The same error occurs, which suggests that the issue may be specific to my system or ANSYS environment.Tried running on a system with administrator privileges.
Cleared system-level temporary files and ensured there is enough RAM and disk space available.
Verified that ANSYS Student limitations (e.g., mesh size, computational resources) were not being exceeded.The same project successfully ran on the previous researcher’s system, so the issue seems to be specific to my setup.
What could be causing the "Int32" error, and how do I debug it further?
Is it related to Polyflow’s handling of mesh decomposition or boundary condition data?
Could it be an issue with my ANSYS Student version limitations or compatibility with this project file?
How can I recover the project after deleting files from the dp0\PFL directory?The error about missing polyflow.dat seems to prevent me from reloading the project correctly.
Are there specific diagnostic tools or logging options I can enable in Polyflow to identify where this error originates?I’ve tried enabling verbose logging (-debug), but I could not identify the root cause from the .lst file.
ANSYS Version: Student 2024R1.
Processor: Intel i7 (8-core).
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060.
RAM: 16 GB. -

Hi, can you take any polyflow example case and try running it in your workbench environment? Do you still get this error?

Have you solved this problem? I am also encountering the same issue. The file I am working on, which I had been playing around with, was functioning fine and had converged until last week. Notably (though I could be wrong), the issue seemed to occur after a Windows update. I can no longer modify any parameters, no matter how small the values are.
