Point Mass – Which Mass Moments of Inertia?

      Hello,

which mass moments of inertia are requested when I add a Point Mass to my static structural analysis?

Is it the mass moments of inertia

      1) taken at the center of mass and aligned with the output coordinate system

      OR

      2) taken at the output coordinate system?

      (for reference: https://www.cati.com/blog/2017/03/demystifying-mass-moments-of-inertia-in-solidworks/)

It is certainly not the the principal moments of inertia, because it would need an orientation defined by the principal axes.

      Kind regards,

      piknockyou

It should be mass moment of inertia about the X, Y or Z axis (global co-ordinate system according to the image above) through the model center of mass. Which according to the link sounds like the former option.

The calculations are discussed in this section of the help.

      Thank for confirming my test-calculations. : )
