Plot number of nodes/cells between walls

      Hello community members,

I'm currently working with a dynamic mesh problem, specifically layering. I'm using Ansys 2019 R3 and the Fluent solver. To analyse the mesh, I would like to make a plot of the number of cells/nodes along a line, with respect to time. What is the best approach to do this? Can I accomplish this in Fluent Results or in CFD-post?

Specifically, I'm following the tutorial below. I would like to plot the number of nodes along the axis, betweeen the stationary left wall and moving left wall.

I don't think you can directly. Indirectly have a look at the xy plot as that looks to generate a data point for each cell/facet on the line. n

Hi Rob,nThanks for this advice. How do you see this happening in practice? nFor instance, I managed to created an animation of a xy plot containing 'x-coordinates of nodes' on the y axis. How does it look? - As time progresses, x-coordinate of the interface node increases, until a new node is created (based on the parameters controlling layering) and processes repeats.nIndeed this is a step forward from where I started - which is some quantitative way to visualize the dynamic mesh. So once again thanks for that.nBut do see some way of using report definitions?.Best,nAneeshn

There's the SUM option in reporting, and that looks to sum the facet values on a surface. You can also get the facet average of the same scalar. If you divide one by the other does that give the number of cells, or a close approximation? I'll leave you to see what happens on a post processing line as that's not technically part of the mesh: a flow boundary or interior edge is. n

You can track the number of the cells by using that Sum report option. You sum 1 over all cells and it will provide with the number of the cells for certain cergions. Same can be done with faces along surfaces.n

I see that was mentioning the same way.n
