Hello there,
I've been watching some videos online that simulate the Spar Buoy free decay test for pitch and heave motion using the star ccm+ DFBI approach. My university does not provide Star ccm+ licence, rather, they provide us with Fluent license from Ansys.
That being said, I'm curious as to whether a free decay test for heave and pitch motion can be performed in Ansys Fluent using the DFBI technique in Star. Or is there an analogous method in Ansys Fluent that I'm just unaware of?
The goal of the free decay test is to find the total damping coefficient, which will be subsequently used to find the viscous damping coefficient that will be applied in Ansys AQWA.
Thanks -

From checking that's a dynamic mesh and VOF combination to look at damping. Have a look at dynamic mesh (or overset) and VOF. But won't the motion be a function of the waves? Or are you expecting a mooring cable to limit the rate of motion of the buoy relative to the waves?Â
