SubscriberHi, I am using the DM Geometry in Ansys. what 's the difference between extruding a sketch as a body and firstly surfacing a sketch then thinning it? I found the results through two methods are the same. I am confused that why to choose the second method in some cases?
Besides, for the details of 'extrude', what's the standard to tell for the operation (select frozen), as thin/surface? (no), merge topology?(no)
I felt so confused about these parameter setting.

Forum ModeratorExtrude will create a solid body of a certain thickness. Not sure what you mean by the latter, can you post an image?
The remainder of the options depend on what you want to achieve. Have a look in the DM documentation, there should be examples.Â

Thank you for your reply!
There are different methods to achieve the same geometries, like extrusion, or surface+thining.
I found the meshing results are different with the same geometries while different methods. like if I used the extruded one, the nodes and elements are much less than the case of using the surface+thining method.
So is it true that different geometry methods really affect the meshing results? I kept the other factors the same, like the meshing parameters.Â

Forum ModeratorAssuming the geometry is actually the same thickness and you've got the same preferences (and settings) in Meshing the geometry generation method shouldn't matter.Â
