I'd like to run OptiSLang with multiple instances of MotorCAD at the same time. I've noticed that there is a tutorial on blackbox usage which hasn't worked for me. Here are a few questions:
- Is blackbox lincensing compulsory to run Optislang with parallel instances of MotorCAD? It used to work just fine with ActiveX
- If so, does the environmental variable need to be reset every time you need to use MotorCAD in GUI mode?Â
- Does the university have a BlackBox license? "motorcad_blackbox" is not listed in my ANSYS License manager
I've tried following the instructions but what I've found is that OptiSLang fails and the MotorCAD Defaults file resets the Requested_Licenses=motorcad_blackbox to a blank and stops working
Thanks in advance

Hi,
It is not compulsory to use blackbox licensing. Blackbox licensing just give the flexibility of using non-GUI licenses without tying additional GUI licenses.
Blackbox mode can be set either in the Ini file or in Environment Variable. At the moment, yes, you have have to change the variable to switch between GUI and Blackbox.
Please check with your Ansys Account Manager for what licenses you are eligible for.
Additionally, I would recommend the tutorials folder that comes with the installation of Motor-CAD. There is a detailed pdf for Ansys BlackBox Licensing and additional tutorials on optiSlang.
Kind regards,

Hi Akeel,
Thank you for your response. In the first instance, I've used the tutorial and template model to generate an optislang project. I've tried running the project with a single instance at a time and I found that MotorCAD was incredibly slow as opposed to manual computation. Task Manager states that CPU usage for MotorCAD is below 1%. I've added another ticket for this https://innovationspace.ansys.com/forum/forums/topic/optislang-motorcad-single-instance-integration/
I've then tried adding the setting for number of instances in parallel but this did not lead to multiple instances of MotorCAD in Task Manager or any improvement in speed.

Yes, this was all following the tutorial and using the template model

I've sorted the issue with multiple instances not starting. However, I do still have the issue that both single and multiple instances run extremely slow compared to the test run in MotorCAD as outlined in the tutorial. The test run takes ~10 mins however the Optislang run with a single MotorCAD instance takes over an hour. Can you please advise?
