I'm trying to mesh a 3d chassis model of a car. The model has been imported from solidworks, and has been made using the weldments and trim/extend feature. As of now, I'm able to mesh the model without applying boolean or without grouping all the chassis members as a part. If I try meshing the model after grouping as a part, the mesh generation takes a long time, but never gets meshed. It just keeps on going. How should I proceed? Thanks.nn

It would be difficult to comment without looking at geometry. Here is my suggestion. nAfter boolean, use 'Check geometry' in Spaceclaim to see if it shows any issue. If some bodies touching in very small region like two curved tagent surface and if boolean happens on these bodies, it creates thin region which is problematic for meshing. Check thoroughly all contacting regions where boolean takes place. Create sufficient large contacting area so boolean happens properly. Also check the small features in the geometry. Set your defeaturing tolerance in Mesh smaller than the smallest featuresnTurn off the defeaturing option in MeshnIf you are doing grouping, check the imprints on each body. Looks for the smallest faces. Again set the defeaturing tolerance smaller than these faces/thickness etc.n

Thank you. I think it was due to few intersecting bodies, which were not detected when i meshed it as separate parts... Fixed them... Thanks n

nI recommend you use a surface model of the frame. nA solid model of the frame will not be useful to for meshing and simulation.n
