Normalizing power coupling in MODE

      Hi,

      I wanted to simulate the power coupling using Lumerical MODE between the TE mode of a waveguide and an external laser mode. So I set the properties of the laser beam and mode, and I tried to investigate the overlapping. The value was very small, so I optimized the position, but still, the power coupling is very low (3.5e-6).

      This should not be the case, since when the laser is closer at 0 um from the waveguide, the power coupling should be maximum (around 100%). The further I go, the less power I have.

      So I found out that I needed to normalize the values.

      How can I do that?

      The configuration of the solver is: mesh cells 200 * 200

      Boundary conditions are: PML

       

      I appreciate any help you can provide.

      There is no need to normalize the modes when performing overlap analysis. Please refer to the following resources for more details:
