SubscriberHello,
I need to analyse how a 15 x 15 x 3/8 inch aluminum sheet reacts underground when subjected to a pulling force from a cable attatched to it as well as the weight of the surrounding soil. The goal is to see if the plate will fail given a pulling force of 40kN on the cable.Â
I have access to both Ansys Fluent and Mechanical.
Also, this sheet will be inclined at around 45 degrees. Any help on how I would go about this would be great, as I am new to Ansys.
Thank you!

Ansys EmployeeHey,Â
You can start with a static structural analysis. Geometry appears simple. Model the sheet and cable.Â
To model the cable you can use beam elements and  change its behaviour setting to 'Cable'. This will ensure that the beam behaves like a cable.
Here is more help regarding modelling beams

Â
You can apply pressure to model the weight of the surrounding soil, meanwhile a force on the cable to pull it against the pressure of soil.Â
To postprocess it check whether the stress levels in the sheet have gone above yield marking general material failure.

You can get started on ANSYS simulations by checking out this course,

Thanks
