SubscriberA body gets excited with a force of particular magnitude which should be damped with the help of a certain damping material like springs or damping bellows or damping pads. I'm new to ansys, what should be the boundary conditions to be given on the body? what model should i select? i want the effect of force to get damped with the help of damping materials. This is a typical model that we see in railway coupler dampers.
As seen in the fig the force acts on the wedge and the draft pads damp the effect of the force.
please help

What is it that you are trying to simulate? What question do you want to ask of a model? What loads are applied? What materials are used? What is the mechanism that provides the damping, is it air flow through the Draft pads or just friction?

SubscriberThe type of load is longitudinal always in a locomotive draft gear. The draft pads damp this very high longitudinal force of the power of mega newtons. I want to simulate whether the system can sustain such loads. The mechanism for damping is friction between the draft pads. -

SubscriberRubber compound. It is sandwiched between two steel plates and perfectly bonded to them.
What model should i go for initially?
Transient structural or dynamic analysis?
