mesh grid question

I have a question regarding the number of mesh grids in Lumerical FDTD.

When the simulation conditions are kept the same and the material is set to n1, the FDTD mesh grid is determined. However, when the material is changed to n2, the FDTD mesh grid is recalculated, and the number of grids changes. Is there a way to fix the number of mesh grids so that it remains constant even when the material is changed?

      Dear Subscriber,

When using auto-mesh, the FDTD solver aims to maintain a specific number of cells per shortest wavelength within the simulation (based on the material). If you change the refractive index, the auto-mesh algorithm automatically recalculates the mesh.

You can explore other mesh settings available in the FDTD Solver. For details, see the Mesh settings tab section in the FDTD solver - Simulation Object  documentation. Additionally, you can incorporate a Mesh Override object in your simulations. Refer to Mesh override - Simulation Object for more information.

Please note that modifying mesh settings might reduce simulation accuracy. For best practices and guidelines, review the following resources:

      1. Selecting the best mesh refinement option in the FDTD simulation object
      2. Understanding Mesh Refinement and Conformal Mesh in FDTD
      3. Convergence testing process for FDTD simulations

      Best regards,
      Kirill
