Mesh for Very Thin Assembly (100nm)

  Hello!
  
  I'm trying to mesh an assembly with parts that are about 100 nm thick, but it is not working because the parts are too thin. If the mesh is coarse it says: "the surface mesh is close to intersecting and it is difficult to make a volume mesh. Please adjust the mesh size or adjust the geometry"
  
  I've tried adjusting the geometry to have the parts be shells, but it wouldn't let me do that. If I make the mesh size really small it says that I need to upgrade from the student version.
  
  Please let me know if there is a work around for this. Any help would be very much appreciated!

  i assume you are using fluent solver.
  
  two possible options.
  
  you can scale the geometry in SpaceClaim. Then mesh it. Then in solver you can scale it down.
  
  second option is to use only zero thickness surface instead of a solid. so you can use mid surface as well.

  To add, most CAD tools will struggle with dimensions in 10s of microns as you hit the geometry kernel tolerance limit. As Keyur suggests, build the geometry in mm so it's 100mm thick and scale in the solver or use dimensional analysis to model the whole lot at a larger scale.
