SubscriberHello,Â
I'd like to capture different tensile and compressive failure criteria for Hughes-Liu beam elements. For compressive failure, the failure stress will be defined by the flange crippling stress.
What is the simplest way to capture different tensile/compressive failure criteria on beam elements? Is it to use a MAT_ADD_EROSION card and define MNEPS and MXEPS?

Ansys EmployeeYour approach seems perfectly valid if you wish to specify separate strain-based failure criteria for tension and compression.  Note that *MAT_ADD_EROSION supplements whatever material model you use for the beams.
