Magnetic Field Around A Current-Carrying Wire

With regards to this post, I would like to do the exact same thing to validate my simulation results. How can I do this in 2D?

It seems like I cannot apply current along the wire as the current excitation only applies out of or into the plane (z-direction) which produces circular magnetic field like this:

I can obtain somewhat expected using 3D like this. But the pattern is not so good I suspect is due to mesh.

I am quite new to this software and can't seem to find any tutorial on how to do this. Please help me thanks.

      Regards,
      Thong

      Hi,

Are you trying to observe the flux density distribution due to the eddy current (like skin effect) on the current carrying object?

      Hi,

No I am not doing anything related to eddy current. I want to simulate the magnetic field around a current carrying conductor. As simple as this:

Seems like a picture is missing here..The B field is affected by the current distribution inside the conductor. 2D desings only allow Z directional current, unless you would like to manually apply current at other directions, 2D is good enough to capture the AC effects.

Does that means that if I am going to stick with 2D design, I can only apply the current out of or into the page like this?

The picture is showing flux density instead of current, but yes, you can only assign current out of or into the page.

Thank you for your clarification. Yes I am interested in the flux density instead of current.
