Lumerical: PCF and hollow core SiO2 fiber – calculate transmission losses?

      Hi,

Is there anyone who tried to use Lumerical software for an effective index of waveguide calculation to get an imaginary part?

I tried with FDE (EigenmodeSolver), but the calculated results for capillaries were far from expected. Is there maybe some better/more efficient tool in Lumerical package for optical loss calculations?

To get the loss or imainary part of neff, you can definitely use FDE. Do you mind telling me how accurate do you expect? for neff, it can be as accurate as to 1e-5, or even smaller, depending on the material and configuration as well as simulaiton settings.  Please first check what is the material loss. For SiO2 fiber with hollow core, the loss is very small in most spectral band. You may need to use finer mesh, large cross section.

      You may try FEEM.  https://optics.ansys.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042305154-Waveguide-FEEM
