License and ‘task’ questions

      Hello,

I have some questions about language in the ANSYS license regarding a HPC cluster (I included the license info at the end of this message).

      What exactly is a task?

What does it mean when it says "(25 tasks): 1 task(s) "? Does this mean that 25 tasks are available and 1 is being used?

How do I determine how many jobs I can run and how many cores I can use for each? I am having difficulty understanding the license guide.

The license information being used on our HPC system is as follows (I removed the user numbers for anonymously):

      # Products licensed in this file:

      # 1. ANSYS Academic Research Mechanical and CFD (25 tasks): 1 task(s) Lease expiring 07-Feb-2022 Customer # USER2

      # 2. ANSYS Academic Research HF (5 tasks): 1 task(s) Lease expiring 07-Feb-2022 Customer # USER2

      # 3. ANSYS Academic Research Electronics HPC (per core): 32 task(s) Lease expiring 07-Feb-2022 Customer # USER2

      # 4. ANSYS Academic Research EM (5 tasks): 1 task(s) Lease expiring 07-Feb-2022 Customer # USER2

      # 5. ANSYS Academic Research HPC (per core): 32 task(s) Lease expiring 07-Feb-2022 Customer # USER2

      # 6. ANSYS GRANTA Research Selector (5 tasks): 1 task(s) Lease expiring 07-Feb-2022 Customer # USER2

      # 7. ANSYS Academic Teaching CFD (5 tasks): 2 task(s) Lease expiring 26-Jan-2022 Customer # USER1

      # 8. ANSYS Academic Teaching CFD (50 tasks): 1 task(s) Lease expiring 26-Jan-2022 Customer # USER1

      # 9. ANSYS Academic Research Mechanical and CFD (5 tasks): 1 task(s) Lease expiring 28-Sep-2021 Customer # USER1

      # 10. ANSYS Academic Teaching Mechanical and CFD (50 tasks): 1 task(s) Lease expiring 28-Sep-2021 Customer # USER1

Thank you for any and all help!

Tasks is the # of concurrent licenses in that bundle, and the 2nd listed task count is the # of bundles. Multiplying the 2 gives you a total task count.
      Example:
      ANSYS Academic Teaching CFD (5 tasks): 2 task(s) Lease expiring 26-Jan-2022 Customer # USER1
There are 2 x Teaching CFD (5 tasks) = 10 total tasks of Teaching CFD. This is total concurrent licenses available.
Each solver includes 4 cores by default, and you have access to additional cores based on the total number of 'anshpc' licenses in the license file.
      Thanks Matt
