Insufficient disk space error

I keep receiving an error when I try and close applications while modifying ANSYS Workbench simulations. The errors below occurred when I closed the Fluent meshing after creating a mesh. This also occurs for applications like DesignModeler, Fluent, and transient structural.

I believe my issue is insufficient disk space. The main drive is a SSD with about 33 GB of free space, and I have deleted or removed all files and programs that I could. The computer also has a 1000 GB HDD that is nearly empty. I can save ANSYS Workbench files on the HDD but I still receive the same error when I open and run from that location.

Is there any way to have ANSYS utilize the space in the HDD? Would installing ANSYS on the HDD be a solution to this problem? Or is there another way?

      Thanks!

      Hello,

It is quite possible that the temp directory in which Ansys is attempting to temporarily write the files into might be the culprit. How much is your C drive and what is the status when you are running Ansys and perhaps even during the meshing process? It is possible that you are running out of space in this C drive during the computation?

      Thanks.

You mentioned that ANSYS stores files in a temp directory, so I followed the directions at /forum/forums/topic/how-do-i-change-the-temporary-location-f/ and I changed the location of temporary storage.

Just the act of doing this seemed to fix the problem for some reason, even if the location I specified was on the nearly full C drive (a SSD). I currently have the storage location set on the D drive, which is a HDD with >950 GB free.

I wonder if the problem was being caused by ANSYS being limited in how much information it could store at the default location for the temporary directory (by something set up by the university).

Anyways, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Everything seems to be working now.

I'm glad things are looking good now. If you could mark the answer as 'Is Solution', it might benefit others on the community.

      Thank you.

can you plz share the steps involved in changing the temp file directory?
