While the Gap is the resulting gap in the contact due to contact setting such as Interface treatment, offsetting contact surface, close initial gap etc. Same applied to geometric penetration and Penetration.nThe color of the contact row in the worksheet shows the resulting status of the contact. The color is one of the four colors shown in color legends. nDecember 9, 2020 at 8:09 amRameez_ul_HaqSubscriber,so if I am applying the pinball radius, so that should be greater than the gap or geometric gap? Does the values within the gap column depends on the pinball radius or no? I mean will the values within the gap column change depending upon the pinball radius?nDecember 9, 2020 at 10:05 amRahul KumbharAnsys EmployeeNo it shouldn't change the resulting gap or penetration. Gap/penetration will change only using advanced settings in contact. Pinball region increases or reduces the scoped area of the contact.nDecember 9, 2020 at 12:58 pmRameez_ul_HaqSubscriberSo, in order to make the contact work fine, for example bonded contact, the pinball radius must be alotted in such a manner that it is bigger than the gap, right? Not the geometric gap. Am I correct? nDecember 11, 2020 at 6:32 amRameez_ul_HaqSubscriber,can you please confirm?nDecember 11, 2020 at 1:27 pmRahul KumbharAnsys EmployeeYes, for bonded contact you can have pinball radius bigger than the gap. Note that this is minimum gap between contact and target surface for non-planar surfaces. So for better contact definition the pinball radius should be higher such that it can include all the nodes of the area of interest. For the bonded contact, sufficiently large pinball radius may allow the initial gap to be ignored and behave as closed contact.nViewing 6 reply threads
