import custom applied nodal forces

      Hello,

      I'm solving a 2D problem with a rectangular domain. For this domain I have x and y force values at regular spaced intervals (in matrix form). Is there anyway to import this data into ANSYS so these forces are applied at the nodes? By changing the element size in ANSYS the nodes align with where the forces should be applied.

      Thanks!

      Hello,

      I created an example that is close to a 2D model, I have force that varies over an XY area of 36x6 mm and I applied that to a 36x6 XY surface in the model, but the deformation is in 3D.  It gives you the outline of how to set it up.

      This was the first time I used External Data and I got stuck at a few spots while figuring it out.
      The attachment is a zip file containing an ANSYS 18.2 project and a csv file.

        Dear Sr., could you share your zip file?

        I would like to check, how you set the forces ubication and the force magnitude...

      Thanks! I've created the csv file with 4 columns (x coordinate, y coordinate, x component force, y component force), added External Data, linked the csv file, identified the data, and linked External Data setup to my original model setup. The only thing I still can't do is actually apply the imported force to my body (see screen shot). I thought if I clicked body selection, then the body, and set that as the geometry selection it would work?

      Yes, nearly there. Forces can only be applied to faces.  A body force would be an acceleration.

      That makes sense. But even if I click the face selection and try to apply it to the geometry, nothing happens. I might be missing something simple?

      Thanks for your help.

      Switch to the Workbench window and click Update. Then go back to Mechanical and try to pick a face.

      You can also create a Workbench Project Archive and attach the .wbpz file to your post (or make a zip file of that and the .csv external file) and I can take a look.
