Hi! I am modelling a reinforced concrete beam for my thesis and I keep on reading in other literature that crushing should be turned off, and some values should be specified such as shear transfer coefficients for an open crack, shear transfer coefficients for a closed crack, uniaxial tensile cracking stress and uniaxial crushing stress are also considered to model the concretes. However, I do not see any option for this even in the engineering data (I am using Menetrey Willam model).Â
Â
1. Can this be done only through command snippets? If so, how?Â
2. Can I specify those values even if my element type is SOLID185 for concrete? I keep on seeing SOLID65 used for modelling, should I use that instead?
3. I saw a post here modeling RC slab using Menetrey Willam model and they used the command snippetÂ
TB,CONCR,matid,,,MSOL
TBDATA,1,2,1,1e-3,100,10,1e-20I tried it in my model and it really helps with convergence. However, I do not know what exactly does. Does anyone know what the values correspond to? Do these affect the input parameters of menetrey willam? Are these related to the parameters (shear, cracking, crushing) I said earlier?
Â
Please help. Thank you!

Hi,
The crushing capability of concrete can be suppressed by setting the failure parameter fc to -1.0. When this is done, the material will crack whenever a principal stress component exceeds ft. This is particularly useful in situations where you want to model the cracking behavior of concrete without considering its crushing capability.
Please note that this is applicable when using the SOLID65 element, which is used to represent concrete and is capable of plasticity, creep, cracking, and crushing. However, it's important to remember that SOLID65 is an archived feature and may not be up-to-date.Please see if the following link helps: [Concrete model] Menetrey-Willam model, Softening behavior (ansys.com)
