How to manually adjust refractive index as a function of E field?

      Hi Jordi,

I am not sure what you mean by manually. I would be interested to know how you are calculating the refractive index. For example, if you have a equation that can be used to determine the index from the field, then you can use Spatial (n,k) data - Simulation object. I can point to a few examples where we do this. But let me know how are you calculating the index.

        Hi Amrita,

I want to implement the Pockels effect in 111 GaAs. I first tried to do a permitivity rotation with chi1xx,chi1yy=10^-10, chi1zz=0. But I obtained no difference when applying the rotation. So now I'm trying to instead implement the analytical formula n1=sqrt(3/2)*r41*E. The example you have given could suffice, since I can use the average E field from a monitor to calculate n1, and then do my remaining simulation with the modified n1. However, do you know if there's an easier method for FDTD?

      Hi Jordi,

Thanks for sharing more information! I do not think there is a simpler method. There are a couple of examples where we calculate the electric fields in CHARGE, determine the index perturbation from the field using Pockels effect, and then apply the index perturbation in FDE/FEEM to calculate the modes of a waveguide. This might be of interest to you:

      1. Ferroelectric Modulator:
This example might look a bit compicated as the full Pockels tensor is considered. But I think it is a good source for looking at the overall methodology.
      2. Thin film Lithium Niobate Electro-Optic Phase Modulator

      Regards,
      Amrita

Thank you Amrita!, I'll look into those examples.
