How to import fiber orientation analyzed in Moldflow 21 into LS-DYNA?

      Hello all,

I saw a brief mention in the LS-DYNA Manual Volume R12 about the possibility of transferring MF data to LS-DYNA (generating an Initial_Stress_Shell), but the actual process doesn’t seem to work well in practice. Does anyone know the detailed steps? Also, how can I verify if the imported data is correct after importing?

      Thanks

      Hello,

You can use the "Injection Molding Data" system in Ansys Workbench to import Moldflow data and map it onto an LS-DYNA model:

You will find more information in the Ansys documentation:

      Injection Molding Data (ansys.com)

Let me know how it goes.

      Hello,

There are some limitations for the LS-DYNA system and you will find them in the documentation:

      5.3. LS-DYNA Analyses (ansys.com)

There is more information about the injection molding workflow in the Short Fiber Composites Guide:

      Short Fiber Composites Guide (ansys.com)

Let me know how it goes.

      Reno.

        Hello Reno,

Thank you very much for your suggestion. Apologies, I may not have been detailed enough in my explanation. I found a window related to Moldflow in Le Prepost 4.7, as shown in the image below. I’m trying to use this window to map data, including fiber tensor data from Moldflow, into LS-DYNA. I’m confused about how to use this window because there isn’t a specific guide, especially for the “Pick Segments” option. I selected two mutually perpendicular surfaces, but the results displayed are quite confusing. Do you know what the issue might be? Or what the specific steps are?

I really appreciate your advice. I personally prefer trying to run it in LS-PrePost first. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try doing it in Ansys Workbench. Your suggestion might lead to a better outcome, but I still want to give this a try, as there’s already an existing window for Moldflow to LS-DYNA conversion.

        Thanks!

      The data is weird.

      Hello,

Moldflow is not supported by LS-PrePost and this feature has been removed from the latest releases of LS-PrePost. We recommend using the Workbench workflow for now.

Let me know how it goes.

      Reno.
